Why can I get old audibles to work on desktop but they won't work on my laptop

I wanted the old audibles on my laptop and desktop computers. I followed the instructions from a "help" link and got the old audibles to work on my desktop. I repeated the same instructions, but the audibles do not work on my laptop. I can't even get the sound after browsing, selecting, then clicking the arrow. I could hear the sound on my desktop when I clicked the arrow. My speakers work fine, I can play music and hear it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Yahoo IM 8- still nothing. I selected to hear audibles and sounds from all appropriate menus. I even went back to try to find the old sounds zip file, but could not get it to come up when I click the link again ("where's the old audibles, I want em" link from "help") I am at a loss! I tried everything I know. "I want em" on my laptop. Help!
