How to resolve 404 error msg for my website?

I am new to website development. Recently i started a website using wordpress. Everything was fine but after I tried to insert the meta code from google webmaster, i don't know if is because I inserted the code in the wrong place or what. When i checked my site today most of the pages have the 404 page not find error? what should I do? please help!
