If most Dominicans are mulatto,then why do most of them call them selves Indio,or Spanish.?

It is evident that after the 1550's there were hadrly any Tainos lefy.The early Spanish settlers that stayed imported African slaves and intermarried with the African slaves,and qiuckly developed a race of mulattos.Most Dominicans tend to look to the past as far as taino indians are concern,and explain why there skin colour is so dark,rather than to except the fact that the great majority of Dominicans are mixed by 73 %11 are black(even though most Dominicans say that Haitians are black)and only 16 percent are actually whte.
